Collapse in 2010...

This is something to think about, and while sure, a lot of this seems sensible in our current situation, I don't think his map has a lot of incite behind it. As a country there is still so much to sacrifice before we hit such dire circumstances that we can no longer support ourselves at all.

Feeling Dead...

So this month has been dedicated to other things... mainly trying to push back on this dead space that is growing inside of me. Need to make some changes, it simply isn't helping my creative side any.

Wednesday, new president, same media

While people around me celebrate, and try to take in as much of their sense of victory as they can, I feel the same as ever. Never in my short life have I placed much faith in any elected official, or the government and political systems to actually do what is right. I woke up today like most days lately, listening the sounds of police and ambulance sirens racing around downtown. Nothing has changed in my personal world, and I don't think much will, but I hope globally things at least take a step in the right direction. The people were desperate, and I hope that they get exactly what it is they wanted.

With that,I watched a majority of the reportings from last night, and couldn't help but feel I was getting cheated on real information. I was constantly distracted by pundit rants, R2D2 like holographic projections of reporters and entertainment stars, and winner projections based on 1% of the vote being tallied to turn what really only takes 30 minutes into a 5 hour superbowl of freedoms. Television is surely more suited to entertainment than a source of news, and I will turning it off when it comes to that from here on out.

What's it Worth?

Last night, progress was made.

A few nights ago while waiting for Touchnice to show up for practice I decided to record some vocals that I wrote earlier that day on the bus. The beat was something I made a while back, planned on using as an interlude and had Elliot of Tyborn Jig come in and play some guitars on it. I decided the vocals fit decently to the track so I recorded them quickly. They turned out quite well but the song still seemed kind of flat. On and off for about a month we have been tinkering with the mic placement on the live drums. Last night we had sort of a breakthrough, and I brought up the track I sort of recorded to see what David could do. It turned out really well, added the element to the beat that the song was missing.

Another one in the chamber.

Last night Elliot Imes of Tyborn Jig was nice enough to stop by and lay down a few more guitar tracks for the album. He has been a part of almost every song so far, and has really added a dimension that was missing in previous works. Our approach is pretty basic, as I just record while elliot plays for about 3 minutes. I then will go back and reconstruct what he has done, a lot like sampling from a record, but without having to eq out drums and bass. So far everything he has done has pretty much fallen right into place with the album, and I am excited he is a part of the process right now.

I have never done much live instrumentation within my music, a lot of that has been limited by the spaces in which I have been working in. Now having a home outside of home with no set hours for noise pollution, I have found some freedom to do so. From live drums to the ESQ-1 and collaborating with other artists, I am enjoying the process more and more. Which only speeds up the progress....

maybe 15%...

crack rock planet...

Below is the first verse to Crack Rock Planet, a song I am getting ready to record this week. Hopefully I will be able to finish up the production by getting Max Plenke of Cleo's Apartment to come in and record the live drum piece.

Live from a planet of rocks/ mars face progress mandible smirks/ unicron cannibal earth/ walk the sun and your sandals will burn/ suburban cage to animal turf/ charred trains wave mechanical surf/ fashion police baton master grip/ Graviton bio clock with an asterisk/ iron lungs under collapsing ribs/ captive in drug trafficking crossroads/ iowa cattle tints/ breakaway for cali blend/ happy cows and better cheese/ nasty crowds of leather sheep/ belly of the beast fire antacid tablet/ aeon grey worker ant acid blend/ vega grey magnified massive lens/ morale status check/ Put em up/ savage mastodon/ cut his tusks for the ivory/ saber tooth shaved smooth with lazer cadence/ abrasive cave nature simians spitting like wild beasts/ and while they eat/ predators turn prey/ like crack dealers seeing remorse in the smile of a fiend on their first taste/ Like humane traits are a sign of the weak/ check a silver back spine and rethink what your inclined to believe/ there's intelligent design in the themes/ scripted from evolved simian digits driving the ink/ my knuckles drag and grind till they're pink/

Baby Steps... and Chinese Toys

It is Friday, I have grown accustomed to waking up late for work, skipping breakfast, avoiding doing all the things I used to thoroughly enjoy in the morning to avoid thinking about the day ahead of me. It is easier to sleep through the alarm, and wake up in a panic, since that seems like the most American way to start off my day. Biting the bullet, eating the Lead Breakfast.

This blog will be a collection of my thoughts, and a journal to follow the steps I am currently taking in finishing up Lead Breakfast, my third full length release. For those that know, the project has been talked about for a few years now. It has become a part of my routine, and lead me into a lot of isolation, as well as brought me towards a lot of new friendships. It will be unlike all my other works, more collaborative, more layered, more depth, more dense. It is the swell of energy, relative to our current social, political, and economic state. It is my growing headache.

Here I am going to be sharing the steps taken in the albums creation, as well as insight I have never really before given to people about the songs. There is simply too much purpose wrapped up in what I am doing to not explain it a little bit. So throughout the process I will do my best to help you understand, what I still might not.
